Things I Want My Children To Know

Saturday, May 02, 2009

The home is of divine origin.  The home was instituted by God in the Garden of Eden in the dawn of civilization.  The home is the backbone of a nation.  When the home life deteriorates, nations soon crumble and fall.  This has been repeated in history numerous times.

We are living in a time when the American home is in serious trouble.  The home was a part of God’s eternal plan for mankind and is the happiest and best way for man to live.  The breakdown of the modern home is not because of some intrinsic weakness in God’s plan, but rather because mankind has been unwilling to accept and live by God’s regulations for happy and successful homes.

A constant concern of those who love God and their children is that of always doing what is right and best for their children.  I would like for each one of us to ask ourselves, “What responsibility does a parent have for their children?”   Parents willingly elect to be responsible for the minds, hearts, and bodies of their children who did not choose them to exercise such prerogatives.  Parental duty is a sacred trust.  Children need concerned parents; they need education, guidance, discipline, and restraint.  What does a parent owe his child before God?

The home is the first school the child attends.  The parents have a God-given responsibility to train their children.  “Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).  The principles of Christianity should be impressed upon the minds and hearts of our children at an early age.   What are the areas where we must train our children?

The Kettering Church of Christ will be conducting a special series of Bible studies concerning the topic: “Things I Want My Children to Know.”
