The Virtuous Woman
The role of a mother is a God-given blessing bestowed upon woman for her own well-being and for the well-being of the children she produces. Women are granted the unique and exclusive privilege of cooperating with God in bringing a living soul into the world. The importance of being a mother cannot be exaggerated. A mother's deeds and words have done more to inspire man than any other thing in the universe. Abraham Lincoln said, "All that I am, or ever hope to be, I owe to my Mother."
The is much confusion today of what role the woman should fulfill in the home and in society. The virtuous woman of Proverbs 31:10-31 serves as a wonderful example of what God would have woman to be in all aspects of life.
1) TRUSTWORTHY - "The heart of her husband trusteth in her...she doeth him good and not evil all the days of her life" (v. 11-12). The virtuous woman is faithful to her husband, always pursuing his best interests.
2) INDUSTRIOUS - "She seeketh wool and flax and worketh willingly with her hands...she riseth also while it is yet night and giveth food to her household" (v.13-15).
The virtuous woman works willingly, and finds pleasure in her work for her household.
3) CONCERN FOR HER FAMILY - "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness" (v. 27). The virtuous woman will find an abundance of domestic ways to care for her husband and family.
4) ECONOMICAL AND WISE - "She considereth a field, and buyeth it; with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard" (v. 16). The virtuous woman is quite a businesswoman, selling the leisure work of her hands to merchants, and buying lands with the proceeds.
5) UNTIRING AND DILIGENT - "She perceiveth that her merchandise is profitable; her lamp goeth not out by night" (v. 17-18). Everything she does is for the benefit of her husband and children.
6) BENEVOLENT AND UNSELFISH - "She stretcheth out her hands to the poor; she reacheth forth her hands to the needy" (v. 19-20). The virtuous woman’s designs are generous and noble; for she labours not only to supply her own and her household necessities, but that she may have wherewith to supply the wants of others who crave or need her assistance.
7) STRENGTH OF CHARACTER AND DIGNITY - "Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she laugheth at the time to come" (v. 25). The qualities of the virtuous woman are the result of her character. She is a woman of moral strength and honor.
8) PROPER USE OF HER TONGUE - "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and the law of kindness is on her tongue" (v. 26). The law of love and kindness is written in the heart, but it shows itself in the tongue.
9) FEARETH GOD - "Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth God, she shall be praised" (v. 30). That which completes and crowns her character is that she fears the Lord. With all those good qualities she lacks not that one thing needful; she is truly pious, and, in all she does, is guided and governed by principles of conscience and a regard to God.
HER VALUE
"Her price is far above rubies" (v. 10)
HER REWARD
"Her children rise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her" (v. 28)
How wonderful this world would be if more women were seeking to develop the above traits. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
