The Hand Of God In Earthly Life
The Hand of God is at work in the earthly life of mankind. The Book of Ecclesiastes is a search for man’s purpose upon this earth. The writer says that he was searching to “see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives” (Ecclesiastes 2:3). In chapter three the writer says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1). God by His providence governs the world, and has determined particular things and operations to particular times. God has given to man TIME; the space in which all the operations of nature, of animals, and intellectual beings, are carried on; but while nature is steady in its course, and animals faithful to their instincts, man devotes his time to a great variety of purposes; but very frequently to that for which God never intended for man to perform. Sin is a transgression of God’s will for mankind or God’s purpose. Man is unable to predetermine or control the seasons or their consequences. God gives and God controls. In order to find the true riches and happiness of this earthly life, man must recognize and acknowledge the limitations of his ability and he must be satisfied to enjoy that which God gives him. “Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God. For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I? For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God” (Ecclesiastes 2:2426 ). God provides by his providence every blessing that man enjoys in his human life. Each one should enjoy his life to the fullest, and be thankful to God.
Jehovah has since the beginning of time, promised His faithful children His loving care and protection as their Father. “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:2831). God has power to bring about the salvation, and that power is never exhausted: “He faints not, nor is weary”; he upholds the whole creation, and governs all the creatures, and is neither tired nor toiled; and therefore, no doubt, he has power to relieve his faithful children, whenever they are brought low through suffering. This physical world is full of trials, problems, and disappointments, but with God’s help the child of God will always overcome. The child of God who through his faith in God commits himself to God for guidance and protection in this life will find that God will never fail him.
