How To Break Out Of A Rut

Saturday, October 24, 2009

A rut is a groove, furrow, or track, especially one made in the ground by a wheeled vehicle.

A rut can also be a fixed routine, a procedure or course of action.  Many individuals feel that their life is in a rut and they don’t know how to correct their course or free themselves.  I would like to offer some spiritual suggestions to free one from a destructive course of action or a rut in their lives.

1) Assume Responsibility For Your Own Life – “So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God”  (Romans  14:12).

Each individual is responsible for the choices that he makes in his own life.

There is no one to blame man’s mistakes and failings upon but himself.

2) Believe That You Can Change Your Life – “I can do all things through Him (Christ) who

strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).  There is nothing that man cannot accomplish with the

assistance of Jesus Christ in his lives.  Man must believe in a power greater than himself.

Each one needs to make a decision to turn his will and his live over to the care of God.

3) Clarify In Your Mind What Is Your Real Need – “In everything by prayer and

supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in

Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).  God is ready and willing to answer the prayers of his faithful

children.  Each individual needs to make honest evaluation of himself and the weaknesses in

his personal life.  With God’s support, mankind can remove all defects of his character.

4) Stop Worrying About What Other People Will Say – “Blessed are you when men cast

insults at you, and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, on account of Me. “Rejoice, and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great”

(Matthew 5:11-12).

Service to God must take priority over everything else in life.  Heaven is the greatest reward

that man could every receive.

5) Stop Waiting For Ideal Circumstances -“Humble yourselves, therefore,

under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your

anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your

adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour”

(1 Peter 5:6-8).  Mankind is involved in an eternal battle between God and Satan, between

good and evil.  Man needs to humbly submit himself to God and his will in order to

overcome man’s greatest enemy, “the Devil, who prowls about like a roaring lion.”

6) Do Something Bold and Dramatic – “Whatever your hand finds to do, verily, do it with

all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in grave

where you are going” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).  Man has only one life to live.  Each individual

needs to make wise use of the brief time that they possess upon this earth.

7) Do It Now!!!  - “Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2).
