What If You Were God?
Did you ever stop to think how you would react to the world, if you were God? What if you had created a world that is perfect and perfectly adapted to human life? You created man in your likeness and gave him dominion over all your creation. You placed him upon the earth and gave him everything conducive to human happiness, including certain rules of conduct that, if obeyed would gain for mankind an even better environment upon this earth.
Mankind’s reaction to your wonderful gift was to rebel against you, violating your simple rules, and becoming alienated from you because of his ungodly conduct. Mankind did hateful things that he knew you despised. But you loved your creation so much, that you were willing to do almost anything to try to redeem him from his lost and undone condition. Since you law had been violated, justice must be done. The law of God decreed that death is the penalty for breaking the law, and thus someone must pay the price. Who shall it be?
Since you love mankind so much, you could not bear the thought of every person dying and being eternally separated from you, because of their sinful condition. Therefore, in your great love for mankind you showed mercy or compassion for man’s sinful condition. As God, you provided a plan whereby all mankind could be redeemed from their sinful condition on this earth and have the hope of an eternal inheritance following this life. This plan for the salvation of man was free of any charge and could not be purchased by human means. You, as God, provided a wonderful gift or grace to man that was unmerited and undeserved. Since man could not save himself or pay the price for his redemption, your grace decreed that your “only begotten son” would pay the price for man’s sin. You sent him among your creation, and they despised and rejected your great gift of grace. They spat upon him, mocked and ridiculed him, and finally nailed him to a cross and left him to die a cruel and horrible death. But you brought Jesus Christ back to life and declared his blood to be the ransom for the sins of all mankind, including those who brutally killed him.
You raised your son from the death and sat him upon a throne and declared him to be the king and savior of the world. Yet, the majority of your creation is unwilling to accept Christ as their savior, or to serve him. Many are too busy doing those things they know are contrary to your will.
If You Were God, What Would You Do?
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17).
