Jesus Christ, The King Of Kings
When the New Testament opens, the Roman Empire rules the world and the time had come for God to set up his kingdom, which would never be destroyed, as foretold in the book of Daniel. “In the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44). Jesus Christ came to fulfill God’s eternal purpose. “Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:14-15). Jesus Christ came to the earth when God was ready for him to arrive. “When the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:4-5).
Jesus Christ as the Son of God has all authority in heaven and in earth. Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” (Matthew 28:18). Jesus Christ was given by God total control over the physical and spiritual forces of this world. “Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church” (Ephesians 1:20-22). Jesus Christ is advanced above all, and he is set in authority over all, they being made subject to him. God hath invested him with uncontrollable authority over all demons, all angels in heaven, and all the princes and potentates on earth. All the glory of the upper world, and all the powers of both worlds, is entirely devoted to him. The Father hath put all things under his feet. All creation whatsoever is in subjection to Christ; they must either yield him sincere obedience or fall under the weight of his judgment, and receive their doom from him.
God gave Christ all power both in heaven and in earth. The Father loves the Son, and hath given ALL things into his hands. But that which completes the comfort for the child of God is that Christ is the head over all things to the church or kingdom; he is entrusted with all power, that is, that he may control of all the affairs of the his kingdom for the benefit of God’s children. All things in heaven and earth are controlled for God’s purpose and man’s benefit. The child of God should have great confidence in his life upon this earth and his eternal destiny because God our Father and Jesus Christ has control of our universe and all its affairs.
