God's Promises

God makes it abundantly clear in his Word that his children will have every need supplied to them. We read in Philippians 4:19; “And my God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Notice that what is mentioned here is our “need.' In this fast-paced society that we live in, it is easy sometimes to fall the trap of thinking we need things that we can obviously live without. How often have you heard a friend say, “I need,” followed by a luxury item? Or how often have you caught yourself saying something similar? We can take comfort that God does provide for our true needs because He says so.

Similarly, we read in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” Knowing that God provides an escape to temptation allows us to trust in Him further because of His promise.

We may read on in Romans 8:28; “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to his purpose.” That being said, God does not promise that we won't face difficult times or that we won't be challenged in this life. What we can draw from this, however, is that all things will work together. There are times in our lives that we may not understand why we are facing a certain difficulty, but rest in knowing that God always provided for things to work together for those who are called according to his purpose.

Let's look at another promise that we read of in Genesis 9:11; “Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there a flood to destroy the earth.” To this day, God's promise still holds true and always will. It was devastating for Noah and his family to live through the flood. But what we can take away from the account is that God always delivered on His word. No different from the passage in Genesis 6:13, where we learn, “And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.”

Although a different kind of promise, God still delivered. Let's trust in God and his promises and know that He delivers according to His word in His own time. God will always keep His promises and we can take true comfort in knowing this.
