God's Ways

I was coming in from a flight on Wednesday and the plane had to land prematurely at a different airport due to inclement weather. Once we were grounded, even the pilots didn't know when we would be able to get up in the air again, until the storm passed. Every passenger on the plane was upset, including me. Landing early probably meant that now our connecting flights at the airport that we needed to be at would all go on without us. We all just wanted to fly home and put the experience behind us. With all this going on, the passenger to my right stated that maybe God was saving us all from a terrible disaster. His statement really opened everyone's eyes around us. We were looking at the situation in a negative sense. Missing our connecting flights probably meant staying overnight at a hotel out of state. It probably meant getting a rental car. It probably meant being away from those we loved one more evening. It probably meant standing long lines to get another boarding ticket out the next day. It probably meant a lot of things at the time. However, what the passenger said was encouraging. What if the pilots had tried flying through that storm? It could have been devastating. We read in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Sometimes in life as humans, we look at a situation and don't quite understand it. We have to remember though that maybe it's not for us to understand. God has a purpose for us all and we need to identify that God ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are as well. Instead, let's put more faith and trust in God and appreciate that not everything in this life will go the way we planned it to go, but that God has a bigger plan in mind.
