Too Far Gone To Follow Jesus
There are many reasons we may choose not to follow Jesus. Maybe we don't have the time, maybe our family don't want us to or maybe we think we are too bad of a person with too many sins to follow Jesus. Let us take a few minutes to focus on the last reason. We are too bad and too sinful to follow Jesus. The blood of Christ is for everyone. Christ came into the world to seek and save the lost (John 8:12). No matter what sin we have in our lives, nothing is too bad for Christ not to forgive, if we submit ourselves to Him. Let us examine a few examples of people with what we would consider really bad sins and how Christ handled these examples.
The first example is that woman caught in the act of adultery. In John 8: 1-11, a woman is brought before Jesus by scribes and Pharisees. They wanted to test Jesus and use this woman as a means to test Him. Instead of condemning this woman, Jesus told the scribes and Pharisees that he who is without sin cast the first stone. Jesus told this woman, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on, sin no more.” This woman had committed a sin which we would consider unforgivable, but as we examine and read the text of the bible, Christ forgave this woman.
In Luke 15: 11-32, Christ tells us the parable of the prodigal son. This story is about a father and a son. God is represented by the father and humanity is represented by the son. The father gave the son his inheritance and the son goes and lives his life sinfully with all the money and loses everything. The son becomes so destitute he starts living and eating with pigs. The son finally comes to his senses and decides to go home to his father. His father could not have accepted him back. Instead, his father forgave him.
Both of these stories show us how God and Jesus can forgive us of any sins we commit. We are never too far gone that the blood of Christ can't wash away our sins. If you feel you are too far gone, please come worship with us and let us help show you God has a plan for you.
