Blessed Assurance
We are living in times of great uncertainty. If you are a consumer of the news media, as I am, it is hard to hear anything positive. We get a daily barrage of media reports informing us of more job losses, earthquakes and other natural calamities, political corruption, and family upheaval. If we are not careful, we can let such negativity affect our life. Uncertainty is a part of our life on earth. We are always subject to sudden changes in our health, family, and career. Everything is subject to change. Where can we find certainty? Certainty is found in the God who changes not. God has said, For I the LORD do not change, Malachi 3:6. The assurance we must build our lives on is found in the spiritual, not the physical. Any assurance we have is given to us through a relationship with Jesus. For example:
Christians have been assured of eternal life. John spoke of our assurance of eternal life, 1 John 2:25, 5:13. No matter how “bad” things get in this life, no matter how great the uncertainties we face, we can be assured of eternal life. This is the hope that sustains us as we cope with disappointments and death. We know that one day we will be somewhere better.
We should use times of uncertainty as an opportunity to increase our faith. Faith is often grown during unpleasant times. Paul wrote, in any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me, Philippians 4:12-13. Paul used the dark hours of his life to increase his faith. So must we.
Assurance is given to the person who is in Christ. Forgiveness is made possible through the blood He shed on the cross. Christians have been counted as heirs of spiritual blessings, being adopted as sons and daughters of God through grace. Are you in Christ? If not, I encourage you to begin a relationship with Him today. Act on your faith! Repent and turn away from your sin, Acts 2:38. Confess Jesus as the Christ, Romans 10:9-10. Be immersed for the remission of sin, Acts 22:16. In this world of fear, doubt, unbelief, & uncertainty, God's people can have blessed assurance. Life is full of uncertainty. There is no uncertainty in Christ.
