The Kettering Church of Christ offers a series of home Bible studies designed to study God's word with any individual in the privacy of their home. We believe that man's only source of authority in religious matters should be the Bible, the inspired Word of God. In the home Bible studies a sincere effort is made to teach the pure and simple truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will teach the gospel in love, trusting that everyone present will evaluate it in the light of his personal life and responsibility before God.
There will be no effort to pressure you in any way. We will not attempt to encourage you to join the congregation or do anything against your will. There will be no attempt to teach anything profound or mysterious, just the simple Bible truths.
These lessons are presented in outline form, and you are encouraged to use your own Bible and to take notes and check what you hear against your Bible. There are four lessons designed to survey man's responsibility to the God of heaven:
What Is Man?
In view of this vast universe man seems but a speck. Yet the love and care which God bestowed upon man lifted him above all other created things and gives him dominion in this life and the promise of eternal life and endless glory with God throughout eternity. What is man that makes God mindful of him? Why should God remember any man and indeed never leave him alone? The purpose of this lesson is to consider some of the facts concerning mankind which help us to determine why God is so deeply interested in him.
Is the Bible the Inspired Word of God?
We are now living in an age when the Bible is questioned on every hand. It is not uncommon or unusual to hear someone ask, "How do we know the Bible is from God?" Our concern in this lesson is whether God has revealed Himself and His will to man or not? We believe God has revealed Himself and His will to mankind and that the Bible is that revelation. Our goal in this lesson is to establish how mankind received the Bible and to give evidences that establishes the fact that the Bible truly is from the God of heaven.
What Must I Do To Be Saved?
This is the most important question that mankind can ask because our souls and our eternal destiny are at stake. Yet, there is more confusion over this question than any other which faces mankind. This is not because the Bible is vague about what a person needs to do to be obedient to God, but because men have paid no attention to the Bible or else have approached the Word of God with prejudice concerning this subject. Where must we go to answer this important question? The "Salvation of Mankind" is the theme of the Bible. The Bible is the only source by which we can receive a knowledge of God's plan for man's salvation. In this lesson we simply study the Book of Acts and examine the cases of conversion to give us insight as to what we must do to be saved by the blood of Jesus Christ.
The New Testament Church
Many honest souls are longing to know which church is right. The divided state of the religious world is indeed confusing. Which church is right? Of which church should we be members? These questions must be answered, not on the basis of what we feel is right or through our own wisdom, but rather on the foundation of what the Bible says concerning the church. Our plea as the Church of Christ is to restore apostolic Christianity. This simply means a complete return to the original doctrine, practice, and worship of the New Testament church. The appeal involves returning to Jesus Christ and the inspired apostles, going back beyond all human creeds, and all ecclesiastical authorities, to restore all things wherein there has been a departure from the New Testament. Our purpose in this lesson is to examine the characteristics of the New Testament church and to see if we can find a New Testament church today!
The members of the Kettering congregation would be happy to set up a Bible study at your convenience. The lessons are approximately an hour in length, and you are permitted to keep the outlines for future study. Please let us know if we can be of assistance. Please contact us at (937) 434-8481.
