And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ - Ephesians 4:11-12 (NKJV)
Most churches focus on social issues and meeting the personal concerns,
likes, and entertainment of the masses. The Kettering Church does not follow
these trends. The work of the church is defined clearly within the word of God
in Ephesians 4:11-12. The work of the church is to equip each member for their
work of service.
The Kettering
church focuses upon the spiritual development of each member so that
they may live a life of service to others. The Lord Jesus stated plainly
that social problems will always exist. It is not the mission of the church
to solve social problems; it is its mission to develop each individual
in becoming a servant of God so that they may affect the world around
them. Therefore, our ministry is the spiritual education and development
of each individual through bible study, prayer, worship and fellowship.
The apostles appealed to the spiritual message of the gospel of Jesus. The
Kettering Church makes every attempt to consistently follow that message
and the examples left to us within the word of God. If you are interested
in developing as a Christian and knowing God's word, the Kettering church
will be a refreshing change for you.
Some of these ministries include:
Our Young People
We are dedicated to
teaching our young people God'ss
love starting from their youth (Eccl 12:1). We have instruction that is
geared towards their age and instruction that is based on God's
word.
Our Elderly
We recognize the needs of our older members. We realize it is hard to get out during
winter; therefore, we adjust our fall and winter hours to meet their needs for Wednesday
bible study. We visit our older members to ensure they are not missed and to take
care of any special requests. We appreciate their wisdom and experience which is
reflected in their involvement and contributions to the Lord's work at Kettering.
Our Widows
We have an awesome responsibility to serve
several widows within our congregation. We often arrange time with
our young people to visit them and perform various services from ranking
leaves, to cleaning up, house repairs, and just stopping by to say
hello.
Our Spiritual Development
We are devoted to
each member's knowledge
and instruction in the Lord. We recognize the world is full of materialism
(what drives people to satisfy oneself by having more and now), that our
children are bombarded with humanism (that the only thing that matters
is self and fulfilling one's desires above others), and that many
live without purpose in life (looking for answers in astrology, psychics,
or cards to provide answers). But our focus is on serving God now so
we can live eternally with Him after we die (for we know after death
comes the judgment and all must give an account to God for what we've
done, good or bad).
Congregational Prayer
We
often devote Sunday evening worship services solely to praising God and
encouraging our members in prayer. We dedicate time to pray for specific
needs of the membership, for our country's
leadership, our families, our sick and shut-in members, and for general
courage to remain strong in a dying society. We see God's handy
work alive within our congregation and we give God thanks for His blessings
and answered prayers.
