“Why Was Jesus Crucified?”

Categories: Memorial Feast

The following article was in Sunday mornings bulletin:

All of us face death, but Jesus' death was not a peaceful passing in His sleep, but a violent, cruel and agonizing death. Jesus explained, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He (John 8:28) and And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to myself’ (John 12:32). Jesus' crucifixion revealed His identity as the Son of God and draws people to Him by demonstrating the depth of God's love.

Jesus said, Greater love has no one than this, than to lay-down one's life for his friends" (John 15:13). Paul explained, But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life (Romans 5:8-10).
