God's Revelation

Friday, September 09, 2016

TEXT: Hebrews 1.1-2

On Sunday, we’ll reacquaint ourselves with the fact that Christianity is a revealed religion. It is vital that we understand the credibility and believability of the Bible. There is no knowledge of God from reason alone, 1 Corinthians 2.14. God must disclose Himself to us. We believe the Bible to be that disclosure document.

Our lesson will discuss:

  • The doctrine of revelation.
  • What we can learn about the Revealer.
  • And, we’ll wrap up the lesson by looking at two types of revelation: natural and special. What can we learn about these things?

For Your Thought and Reflection

  • In what ways has God spoken? See Hebrews 1.1-2.
  • How is God different from the idols? See Isaiah 46.5-7, 9-10.
  • What does nature reveal about our Creator? See Psalm 19.1-2; Romans 1.18-21.
  • Can you think of some things we learn about God through special revelation (i.e., the content in Genesis-Revelation?)

The God Who Speaks

Friday, September 02, 2016

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 2.1-12

On Sunday, we’ll be talking about what God has revealed to us and our perspective in delivering His message to the world. As we do so, what we study should build our faith, fill our hearts with confidence and create joy and excitement. We have something very reliable in our hand.

When we consider the lengths that God has gone to preserve His word, the sacrifices men have made in copying it, translating it, and printing it, our hearts can be filled with thankfulness as we have the tool that will help us make sense of our purpose here and our existence in the next.

Our lesson will discuss:

  • What we believe about God’s word.
  • How this makes us stand out.
  • We’ll look at a warning in the book of Amos.
  • We'll talk about beginning at a different starting point - such as where Paul did in 1 Corinthians 2.
  • And, we’ll wrap up the lesson by looking at Hebrews 1.1-2. These verses contain the message of Christianity. God has spoken, revealing who He is and what His purpose is for us. Will we accept his message in faith?

For Your Thought and Reflection

  • What is one important thing you believe about God’s word? How does this fact help your faith?
  • What is the world’s viewpoint on the Bible? Has this ever affected your faith? How?
  • What does 1 Corinthians 2 teach us about the role of the Spirit in convincing men and women to believe?
  • What does Hebrews 1.1-2 tells us about God?

Faithful Mothers

Faithful Mothers

TEXT: Titus 2.3-5

On Sunday, we’ll revisit Titus 2 and focus on women/mothers and their role inside the family. God has a magnificent and wonderful design for women. It will make them a blessing to the world and bring fulfillment to their life.

On Sunday, we’ll examine verses 4-5 in depth and learn these four essentials:

  1. Faithful mothers love their husband and children.
  2. Faithful mothers are self-controlled and pure.
  3. Faithful mothers are workers at home.
  4. Faithful mothers are kind and subject to their husbands.

For Your Thought and Reflection

  • What are some reasons the traditional role of the wife and mother are being diminished in society?
  • What are some ways a mother loves sacrifically?
  • How can we avoid extremes on both sides on the workers at home issue?
  • What would your family be like without the warm and tender care of a loving wife and mother?
  • What are some ways you can verbalize your thankfulness and appreciation to your wife and/or mother?

How Jesus Loves His Church

Friday, July 29, 2016

TEXT: Ephesians 6.10-13

On Sunday, we’ll revisit Ephesians 5, but this time we’ll examine it from the perspective of Jesus’ affection for His bride, the church. It seems we live in a time when it is fashionable to bash the church. For some, the essentiality of the church is being lost. How should we view God’s church? Why is this so important as we live life in a changing world? We need to realize we are participants in a epic ongoing spiritual battle. Are you prepared to stand together with your fellow solders in God’s church?

On Sunday, we’ll learn more about:

  1. Jesus’ love for the church and His continual work to purify it.
  2. How this connects to our teaching curriculum for 2016: Life in a Changing World
  3. The importance of what we’re doing. Salvation is nearer than when we began.

For Your Thought and Reflection

  • Why should we refrain from bashing Jesus’ church?
  • Reread Ephesians 5.22-33. Can you identify 4 things that describe Jesus’ interaction with the church?
  • Now read Ephesians 6.10-13. Why is how we live in this changing world so important?
  • What are some ways you need the church as you move forward on your spiritual journey?

How a Husband Loves His Wife

Friday, July 22, 2016

On Sunday, we’re continuing our look into marriage. In Ephesians 5.25a, Paul issued a command for husbands to love their wives. This love is an intentional choice, regardless of the lovability of its object. It is, the way Jesus loves the church. In this lesson we will examine verses 28-33. Here are three more descriptions of how a husband is to love his wife. They are:

  1. A love filled with care.
  2. An unbreakable love.
  3. A love that is filled with sincere motives.

For Your Thought and Reflection

  • How does a husband nourish and cherish his wife?
  • Today, many treat marriage as something that is disposable. What are some of the factors contributing to that?
  • How can you develop your marriage relationship into something unbreakable?
  • Read v. 32-33. Why should a husband love his wife? To what is marriage compared?
