Approach Death Positively

Series: Preparing to Face Eternity

Approach Death Positively

During October we’ve been concentrating on preparing for eternity and we’re contemplating the time when tomorrow begins without me. The Psalmist said, teach us to number our days carefully so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts, Psalm 90.12 CSB. If we knew we were dying, we want to approach life with the type of spirit that when death approaches we die without regret. We want to be able to reach the end and say, I lived my life well. Question is, how do we get there?

Your Life Belongs to God

  1. Job 12.10 - Our life is not our own.
    1. Acts 17.28 - in him we live and move and have our being.
  2. Luke 12.15  - for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

Life is a Gift to Display the Image of Christ

  1. Our goal: To place the infinite value of Christ on display for the world to see.
  2. Philippians 1.20-21 - What was Paul’s number 1 passion? With full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.
  3. Philippians 1.20 - whether by life or by death.
    1. By life: See Philippians 3.7-8 - I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
      1. How do we do that? We treasure Christ above all.
    2. By death: See Philippians 1.23 - this tells us how death is gain … it is to depart … and be with Christ … for that is far better.
      1. Are you willing to take risks and make sacrifices in order to enjoy more of Him?
      2. 2 Corinthians 12.9-10. I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

This Allows us to Approach Death with Positivity

  1. 2 Timothy 4.7…
    1. The good fight I have fought…Transliteration: “I have agonized the agony.”
      1. Colossians 1.28-29
      2. “Good” fight - A noble calling. A high calling. A heavenly calling.
      3. 2 Corinthians 5.19 - God has committed us to the work of reconciliation. We are His ambassadors.
    2. The course I have finished. This is the self-discipline to stay on track.
      1. Two things that get us off track: unnecessary baggage and sin.
      2. Hebrews 12.1-2
    3. The faith I have kept. Paul lived under the authority of the Word.

What Will You Do With Your Life?

  1. ill you make Jesus the all satisfying treasure of your life?
  2. Can you say with Paul, Philippians 1.21-23; 3.7-8?
