Grace is Always Greater than Sin

This month we have discussed the idea that “Sin is Always Sin.” We have stood directly on the frontlines of the culture war and went toe to toe with the beast that is Relativism. We have established that Sin is Always Sin, absolutely. As our lesson series comes to a close, we will explore another absolute truth, our only hope for victory—Grace is Always Greater than Sin. 

  1. The Power of Grace
    1. Titus 2.11-14 Grace has appeared, bringing salvation to all
      1. Grace has appeared. Has become apparent or obvious.
      2. For what purpose? Your deliverance. Bringing salvation.
    2. Grace does three things.
      1. v. 12a Trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions
      2. v. 12b …and to live godly in the present age
      3. v.13 Points to our blessed hope
    3. Why is grace neglected in many pulpits? Why so many disclaimers?
      1. 2 Corinthians 12.9 grace is sufficient_.
  2. Renounce Ungodliness (Titus 2.12a) 
    1. Romans 6.1-2 Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means!
    2. We will break ourselves into pieces without objectivity, without God.
      1. James 4.4-10. But he gives more grace. Humble yourselves.
  3. Live Godly in the Present Age (Titus 2.12b)
    1. What is Godly Living?
      1. Just some kind of religion? Outward appearance?
      2. Or inward pouring outward?
    2. Hebrews 11.1 The Christian faith is built on an inward “assurance.”
      1. Creation is evidence of the reality that God is Creator. No Creator? No creation.
      2. Ephesians 2.10 you are evidence. You are God’s workmanship
      3. Trust in God always produces good works. 
  4. Waiting for our Blessed Hope (Titus 2.13)
    1. The Futility of Relativism
      1. Many claim that there is no Truth—relativism. 
      2. Is that true?
    2. God is Truth
      1. Isaiah 26.4 God is an everlasting rock. 
      2. Revelation 22.1-5. Heaven is real and there the Christian will see God “ face to face.”
    3. Grace Gives Us Victory
      1. Ephesians 2.8 by grace you are saved.
      2. God’s grace teaches us right from wrong.
      3. It ultimately is what brings us home, not our own goodness. 
    4. Sin is Real…but so is Grace.
      1. Before us is a tidal wave of sin…
      2. And yet grace is greater. 
      3. Have you taken hold of that grace?
