A Little Faith

Series: The Challenges We Face

A Little Faith

If there is anything our current crisis has challenged us with — it is the need for a strong moral/spiritual foundation for our life. We are being challenged in ways we never have before. It is good for us to review the three imperatives in our main text. The heart of the message is …do not worry - even about our necessities. Let’s concentrate on 6.30 and how the verse ends: O you of little faith. What exactly does Jesus mean? Do you need to increase your faith? How do you develop or expand your faith in the midst of crisis?

Faith Expansion is Vital

  1. We have to go beyond salvation.
    1. Faith is more than what happens inside a building one or two days a week.
    2. We may believe on the Lord, but don’t believe the Lord.
  2. We must refuse to be governed by life.
    1. Instead of being mastered by our circumstances, we must master them..
      1. Romans 8.37 - we are more than conquerers.
      2. Romans 12.12 - be patient in tribulation.
  3. Little faith does not think.
    1. Especially in times of crisis and change … see only problems; not blessings.
      1. How is God working through the pandemic to recharge my faith?
      2. How is God working to bless Kettering with a new building?
    2. Negative thoughts create a vortex … with a gravitational pull that can takeover our mind.
    3. Matthew 6.25-34: What is Jesus asking us to do? Please look at the verbs again:
      1. 6.26 - look; 6.28 - consider; 6.30 - asks an open ended question… if …, will he not?
      2. What is Jesus asking us to do? Slow down and think… not just react.

Take God at His Word

  1. Isaiah 43.2; Romans 8.28; 1 Corinthians 10.13; 1 Peter 5.7; Philippians 4.6-7; Matthew 7.7-8
  2. Will we take these passages at face value?
    1. Let our faith be like Abraham. Romans 4.20-22 - He was fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. No hesitation; no wavering.
    2. 2 Corinthians 1.20: For all the promises of God find their Yes in Him.

What Salvation Implies

  1. 2 Corinthians 6.16-18 - God is our Father.
  2. God has plans and purposes for you. He is directing your life.
    1. Psalm 139.1-3 - God is acquainted with all my ways.
  3. God loves you abundantly. See Ephesians 3.18-19.
  4. God is real.
  5. God has complete concern for you.
  6. God has all power.
    1. Ephesians 1.18-19; 3.20 - this is the power working inside of you.

Conclusion

  1. Will you apply what you know and believe?
  2. Luke 8.25 - where is your faith?
