Motives for Prayer

Day 3

MOTIVES FOR PRAYER

Text: Luke 11.1: “Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”

Teaching: We can pray in the wrong way. We need to make sure we know how to pray and for what to pray. When we pray with the right motives, we can be assured that God will hear and answer our prayers. James 4.3 says, “You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.”

Action Today: Read and study these passages:

  • 1 John 5.14: Ask: “Is what I am about to pray for according to God’s will?”
  • James 5.15-17: Ask: “Have I confessed and repented of my sins?”
  • 1 John 3.21-22: Ask: “Do I trust God and live in assurance?”
