“The Power and Effectiveness of Prayer”
I will give You thanks with all my heart; I will sing praises to You before the gods. I will bow down toward Your holy temple And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name. On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.
All the kings of the earth will give thanks to You, O LORD, When they have heard the words of Your mouth. And they will sing of the ways of the LORD, For great is the glory of the LORD. For though the LORD is exalted, Yet He regards the lowly, But the haughty He knows from afar.
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands. (Psalm 138)
There is power in prayer! David said, On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. God hears those who serve Him. Sometimes a positive answer to our prayers reminds us just how true this is. Think of the great comfort found in the fact when others pray for us and our needs. The power of prayer is magnified when groups of Christians band together in their petitions to God! (Acts 12:5, 12) Christians do not have to look far to see how this is true.
Jesus testified to the power & effectiveness of prayer. He instructs us to pray with assurance that our prayers will be answered! (Mt. 7:7-11) We must operate with the knowledge that the Lord will supply our needs – giving what is good to those who ask Him. Note also Ephesians 3:20. Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.
David said: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. In this life, those who oppress and hurt us can cause great discouragement. In fact, it might seem as if they have the upper hand. Meanwhile, we continue to pray—trusting that God will grant some relief. Then, on God’s timetable we begin to see His plan and how He deals out justice on those who rebel against Him and His way. They will not succeed! Remember Paul’s writing in Rom. 8:37: But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
Let’s thank God for the rich blessings He bestows on us. Thank Him for the avenue of prayer! Praise Him for the victories we have over sin and those who trample on His name!"
