“God Will Equip You”

But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.” But he said, “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.” Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses and he said, “Is there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold, he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. You shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth, and I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do. He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, and you shall be as God to him. And take in your hand this staff, with which you shall do the signs.”
Exodus 4.10-17 ESV
ODAY’S READING: Exodus 4-6
In today's reading, God has just called Moses into service. He chose Moses to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt into the promised land. Moses, who had been dwelling in seclusion in Midian for the previous 4 decades, must have still been in shock while engaged in this conversation with God. His first reaction was, I can't do this. I wonder if ours would have been any different. Here is a great example of the bountiful patience of God as He continually assured Moses that He would equip him for the mission. We know the story. Moses followed through and became one of the greatest leaders in the history of God's people. What mission is God calling you to? Has He called you to an area of service in His church? Is He calling you to be a godly husband or wife or parent? Are you facing a challenge that looks impossible from your current vantage point? No matter your situation, God will equip you for success. Because of His power, constant care, and strengthening, you have the opportunity to be all He wants you to be. Don't let self-doubt hold you back. Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen, Hebrews 13.20-21.
