“God Deserves Our Best”
The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, that they take for me a contribution. From every man whose heart moves him you shall receive the contribution for me. And this is the contribution that you shall receive from them: gold, silver, and bronze, blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, goats’ hair, tanned rams’ skins, goatskins, acacia wood, oil for the lamps, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, onyx stones, and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece. And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and of all its furniture, so you shall make it.
Exodus 25.1-9 ESV
TODAY’S READING: Exodus 25-27
Today's reading begins a detailed section of scripture containing God's instructions on the building of the tabernacle. As I read these chapters today, I was impressed with the quality of the materials used in the process, as well as the amount of time and effort needed to complete the tasks. By requiring the best of the best, God wanted to communicate his great power and exceeding glory. All of Israel was to contribute to the project. Everyone was to be personally invested - because God had delivered each one of them from the slavey of Egypt. Today, New Testament Christians have the opportunity to give and contribute to the work of Christ. He only deserves our best. God sacrificed His Son for us, what will we give in return? How will we respond in our daily service and worship? Never take for granted what God did in rescuing you from the slavery of sin. Not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord, Ephesians 6.6-7a.
