“It's All About God”

Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘Among those who are near me I will be sanctified, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” And Aaron held his peace.

Leviticus 10.1-3 ESV

TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 8-10

For as long as the world shall stand, this passage will serve as a warning on disrespecting God. While what happened to Nadab and Abihu may seem unfair to a reading audience four thousand years later, there may be more to the story than we know. In previous chapters we read of God's specific requirements on how the priests were to conduct themselves before the Lord. In reality, there was no excuse for their presumptuousness. This was not about them. It was about God. Their decision to ignore this principle cost them their lives. While we may not be immediately struck down for disregarding God, we must never ignore the eternal principle for approaching God with reverence and awe. It's not about us. It's about God. What is your view of God?
