“Set Apart for God's Purposes”
For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. You shall not defile yourselves with any swarming thing that crawls on the ground. For I am the LORD who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”
Leviticus 11.44-45
TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 11-13
After reading Leviticus 11, we may come away amazed at the detail of the law. These prohibitions were for a distinct purpose. God wanted to set His people apart from the nations around them. They were to live for Him and glorify Him. Just as God was holy, His people were to be holy. These same principles ring true for New Testament Christians. We have been set apart for holy living. While the world may constantly try to pull us away with its pleasures, we know that God's ways work best. Where is the world impacting your life? What are some areas you need to give attention to and heighten your resolve to resist worldliness? As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy, 1 Peter 1.14-16.
