“Cleansed From Sin”

 

This is the law for any case of leprous disease: for an itch, for leprous disease in a garment or in a house, and for a swelling or an eruption or a spot, to show when it is unclean and when it is clean. This is the law for leprous disease.

TODAY’S READING: Leviticus 14-15

Leviticus 14 gives the details on the purification ritual that a person who had been healed of leprosy had to go through. Some writers have said that leprosy was "emblematic" of sin. Generally, the condition of leprosy was viewed by the Jews as being incurable. It  was a disgusting and foul disease. Because of the great danger associated with its contagiousness, lepers were regarded as unclean and separated entirely from the rest of the camp. Divine intervention would have been regarded as the only way a person could have been delivered from it. Think of our problem with sin. It's completely incurable. No human can remove its stain. It can not only bring us down, it can spread to others and wreck their life. There's no cure - except from God. Have you had your sins washed away? Will you allow God to cleanse you through the blood of Jesus? If you have, then let your appreciation move you to let everyone else know how you found the cure for your condition. And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean, Matthew 8.1-2.
